Columbo

"Just one more thing..."

Do you remember detective Columbo?  I'm sure you do. Who has not seen one (or twenty) episode in which the eternally scruffy looking detective investigated, doubted and arrested the bad guys. Always with his  characteristic cigar in hand, of course.

Columbo was another of the characters chosen as a gift in my wedding. It was for my friend Waldesca, a real fan (she loves vintage TV, lol!) and who loved the doll the moment she saw it.

In this pic he's not smoking yet :

Now with his cigar:

I tried to reproduce this famous pose of the character, as if he was thinking that something was wrong:

And, as you can see, he wears his beige trench coat  a belt and a black tie. He also has bushy eyebrows, uncombed hair, and  part of a cigar in his hand..

The new owner recognized the doll on the spot ( wooohooo!!) and she even suggested us to get married again because she wanted a Jessica Fletcher doll ...

How do you like him?

Elvira, Mistress of the Dark

Let's start showing the dolls I made as wedding favors in my own wedding. I wanted to give away something meaningful for them so I wanted the favors to be customized to each guest's likes and fandoms.

I want to start with my amigurumi version of  Elvira, Mistress of the Dark. If you remember, this was a character which was really famous in the 80s, with her own films,  TV show and videogames. My friend Raquel is a huge fan of her and her looks, so it was easy to decide which was going to be her gift.

Here's a pic of the original Elvira, just in case you don't remember her by just her name:

I tried to reproduce the pale color of her skin in face hands and cleavage. The legs are darker as if she was wearing nylon tights. I'm not sure if you can see in these pics but she also has black garters in her legs.

Her cleavage and boobs ended up a little to close to her face.... but well, the original one was not very different, right? ;)

Of course, the heavy make up was really important to complete her looks. (Oh, the 80s!  no nude colors back then....) She needed a dark and out of the eye eyeliner and heavy coat of bright pink blush. I tried it by embroidering the eye contour and long eyelashes and applying real blush to the doll (pink MAC blush, to be precise)

The skirts of the dress was made of felt so she could shown her legs through the lateral cuts, She also has a belt decorated with a knife charm, imitating the one the real Elvira carried .

Unfortunally, the doll's hair has not the same volume as it was supposed (again, oh the 80s!), but I think it looked fine like that.

I'm really glad that Raquel liked her doll a lot. What do you think?

Amigurumi as wedding favors

Posted by Laura (Moñacos, Cosicas y Meriendacenas) at 8:17 AM 6 comments
Well , the reason behind the lack of blog updates during this year was that I was really busy crocheting things that couldn't be shown. Why? Beacause they were the wedding favors we were going to give our guests in our wedding, so they had to be a secret!

Each amigurumi was customized according to the guest's preferences, fandoms, hobbies... And they were presented to each of them in a hand stamped and washi tape-decorated box (also hand assembled) with a picture of the character in which the amigurumi was based.

I'll be posting the dolls one by one (I have blog material for at least a year!)

It has been a hard work some times, but totally worth it. Wish I could post pictures of the guest's faces when each of them found out which character they received. It has been really rewarding and all the work has been paid off with all that joy. Since some people couldn't make it to the reception, these are not all of the dolls I made, but I can show you those we did give that day (we have to mantain the secrecy of the rest for a while!)

I can't remember the last time I crocheted something for me or a comission out of this wedding craziness!
Now I'm open for both again. Thanks for being patient and keep on following the blog even if it's not regularly updated!

love,
    Laura
