Very special dolls

Posted by Laura (Moñacos, Cosicas y Meriendacenas) at 2:02 PM 3 comments

I want to show you the most special amigurumi that I had made until now.

My friends Jesus and Lidia got married last Oct 20th and they want my dolls (and me, of course) to be present that day. I was asked to be a bridesmaid and commissioned me part of the wedding decoration.  Their very non traditional idea was to have a Freddie Mercury amigurumi made by me in the table of the judge that was going to marry them. And after that, Freddie would be the centerpiece of their table in the reception dinner.

I made a bigger version of the Freddie amigurumi I had already done, but the smaller one had also a prominent place and was worn by the bride  as a brooch in the civil ceremony. I was very happy and excited for this commission, so thank you, Lidia!

This Freddie has been the biggest amigurumi I had made until now, even if you don't count the base he is on.

This is the image  I used for inspiration:

The microphone unfortunately was a little bigger in proportion, but there was no time to change it... sorry!

The base is covered in dark green felt.

Here's a detail of the golden buckle, his moustache and legs:

I'm so glad they loved the results and that it was a surprise for the family and friends,
Here's a picture of me in front of the bride and groom's table at the reception... please ignore my silly face, but you can find Freddie on the table with the flower decorations  ^^

And since it was not a traditional wedding, I wanted to make some original wedding dolls for the happy couple. A groom dressed Patrick Star and Lydia from Beetlejuice ... it's a long story, they know why ;)

I tried to make  Lydia with a wedding dress, but she was more recognizable with the spiderweb dress :

I also came back home with a wonderful handmade present by Lidia. I love it, thank you so much!

I had such a great time at their wedding... it was very unique and personal and so moving. Thank you so much for letting me participate so actively in it. I wish you all the happiness in the world, guys, I love you both!

Scrump 2.0

Posted by Laura (Moñacos, Cosicas y Meriendacenas) at 12:37 PM 2 comments

I want to dedicate this post to my friend Lara. She's the one who told me to watch Lilo and Stitch because she loved the movie as much as I love it now.

When I made the Scrump I have already shown in this blog (you can find it in here), Lara was her biggest fan. I promised her that I'd  make one for her, and here it is.

This is a smaller and  improved version of Scrump (at least I think it is). I think this version  looks more like Lilo's doll. Lara loved it and I wish I could have done a picture of her face when she saw the doll.

Scrump 2.0 is made with  Cotton Natura DMC,  and she has the same buttons as her bigger counterpart

I had to take a pic of Scrump with Stitch...

And with the bigger Scrump...

The three of them now...

And  photo-bomb!

Chibi dolls

Posted by Laura (Moñacos, Cosicas y Meriendacenas) at 9:28 AM 0 comments

Chibi  is a japanese word to describe a short person, a kid or a childish caricature version of a character. For instance, take this image of the characters of Sailor Moon in their "normal" design and in their Chibi one:

I have already shown you my chibi versions of Sailor Moon and the Harry Potter characters in amigurumi. I love to make chibi characters to use as a  brooch or keychain. I'm planning to make lots of these since they are fun and easy to make. Any suggestions or ideas of whose chibi I should make?

This week I have two new to show you, Princess Leia and Dr Zoidberg.

The simple design of the princess is perfect for this type of dolls:
:

Zoidberg  is a commission for my friend Judith, who asked me for one of these ages ago (sorry!)

I'm really proud of his face tentacles and crazy look   ^^

PD: In Spanish I named this type of dolls as "Chibi-moñacos",  as a reference of the original name of my blog. "Moñacos" is used as an endearing alternative term for "muñecos" (which means dolls) so moñacos would be something like "dollies", more or less.

I hope you liked my chibi moñacos and that you let me now which other characters you'd like to see as one of these!
