Freddie Mercury: the making off (Part 1)

Posted by Laura (Moñacos, Cosicas y Meriendacenas) at 4:35 PM 8 comments

It's been a long time since I wanted to make a felt Freddie Mercury doll. I had its pieces already cut out, but they were abandoned in a box because of  my lack of time. Now, with the resolution of finisihing it, I'm on the task again.

I thought that I may post pictures of the process as well.

This is what  I used:
-A cardboard template (I made one  from a cereal box).
-Felt in yellow, white, dark brown, flesh and red
-Thread
-Scissors
-Sewing Machine.

Un molde en cartón de cereales, hilo, tijeras, fieltro, safety eyes, agujas y...

STEP 1: The head:

I sew two dark brown felt pieces placing the flesh one in the middle and I left a small part without sewing ti stuff it and put the eyes. I made a mistake and I sew all the head with the flesh colored thread. Don't do that, match it, please.

Before closing I placed the safety eyes and sew his characteristic moustache. I thought that at this stage looked  like Ned Flanders...

STEP  2:  Body:

It was late fot me to sew it inside out and then turn it (the best way to do it)  since I had the pieces already cut for a long time ago. I sew it carefully and the finish product was not that bad. With the body measures I did the shirt and I hand sewed it.

STEP  3: Clothes
The pants were sewn inside out and then turned....and they fit! Woohooo!!

I added two red stripes to the sides:

Now... the jacket... this is going to be challenging...

Maggie

If any of you are crafters with a cat you know the extra challenge this is: they play with yarn, the pieces of the amigurumi you are trying to finish, they bite the pincushion, they sit in anything you are doing to demand attention... etc

I always say that Maggie, my cat, despite how much I love her, she is not very feline. She's clumsy and not independent at all. She's with me everywhere I go. She doesn't like yarn balls either...

The internet would not be that wonderful thingh without cats, so I wanted to introduce Maggie to you. And here she is, doing what she likes most, sitting in the pattern I'm following so I pay attention to her:

I told you, everywhere I go...

Isn't she lovely?

I'm sad, Christmas season is over. My body is grateful for after so many huge meals, though.
I wanted to show you the presents that I had given and had received this year:

In Spain the Three Wise Men are the ones who bring the presents instead of Santa, but this year my presents came with the old man in red instead. This is what I got in Christmas Eve:

A wonderful sewing machine! I'm so eager to learn to make things with it!At first seems complicated bu I hope that soon I will learn how to use it eficiently.

I also got a musical DVD pack and a crochet book:

These are the ones prepared for my brother, his girlfriend and my boyfriend, Carlos:

This was also a present for Carlos, these wise men know we like Disney:

And then, the Secret Santas with my colleagues from my crafting groups.  You can call it a handmade secret santa, since tjhe only rule was that all the presents were handmade. It was really fun.

This is what I got in one of the groups. It's a mouse pincushion you can put in your finger while you'r sewing so you have everything on hand, literally. I simply love it. Great idea.

This is the mini Kokeshi doll I made:

I enjoy making these dolls  and people seem to like them, so I made another one fot the other group tooI added a cloud felt brooch.

I also made this Jiji Cat for a project called " The most magical day", organized by a local radio. The intention was to collect items (handmade or not) to donate to a local shelter so nobody was left without presents in Christmas.

The pics are not very good but I swear it's soft and huggable in person :D

Hama Beads

Posted by Laura (Moñacos, Cosicas y Meriendacenas) at 7:20 AM 1 comments

I have been trying a different craft these days. After the felt attack, the crochet and the amigurumi obsession... now I have a Hama Beads! (Somebody said Diogenes syndrome?)

Hama Beads are plastic beads that you arrange in a peg to create an image. When you apply heat to your creation, beads melt and merge in a uniform surface.

I 've only tried a few things but it's easy and entertaining. And you can do geeky things!
These beads are perfect  to make pixelated forms, and what is more pixelated than a videogame character?
I have tried a Bubble Bobble dragon, a worm from Worms, a Chocobo from the Final Fantasy saga and a pair of ghosts from Pacman.
